City of Sand Point Animal Control Ordinance

 

The City of Sand Point will be enforcing animal control ordinances beginning June 7, 2010.

 

All dogs are required to be wearing a current City of Sand Point tag, showing they are licensed, on their collar.  A new license is required every year.  Licenses may be purchased through the Animal Control Officer.  The ACO will be available June 1st-4th from 1-3pm at the old water plant.  Beginning the 7th, she will be available Monday afternoons, from 1-2pm, at the old water plant.

 

Licensing fees are $25 for an un-spayed/neutered dog, $10 for a spayed/neutered dog.  You will need proof of current rabies vaccine.

 

 

1st pick up of an animal: 

(Animal may be taken to the owner if Terry knows who the dog belongs to & is able to get into contact with them.)

If the animal is claimed by an owner:

1.  Purchase of a license will be required if the animal does not have one.

2.  Warning issued for the nuisance animal.

If the animal is NOT claimed by an owner:

  • 1. After five days the dog will be put up for adoption.
  • 2. If no adoption has occurred, animal will be humanely euthanized.

 

2nd pick up of an animal:

(Animal may be taken to the owner, since it should be tagged, if Terry is able to get into contact with them.)

  • 1. $100 fine for nuisance animal
  • 2. Second warning issued for the nuisance animal.

 

3rd pick up of an animal:

Animal is humanely euthanized

 

If you are interested in adopting a dog, please submit your name and phone number to Terry.  Before any dog is euthanized it will be put up for adoption.
